COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Police have identified the man that was struck and fatally injured earlier this month in southeast Colorado Springs.

Our team reported on a pedestrian crash that occurred at 9:41 p.m., August 4th, at the intersection of Hancock Expressway and Jetwing Drive, which is just south of Giberson Elementary School.

Since the initial report, authorities have identified the pedestrian as 31-year-old Nicholas Bates. They say Bates died at the hospital on August 6th from injuries sustained in the accident.

Police located and arrested the hit-and-run driver on Monday. They’ve identified him as 31-year-old Landis Bryant Jamal Hester. The suspect faces several charges, including theft and a hit-and-run involving death.

Officials say that Bates was walking southbound across Hancock Expressway when the westbound hit-and-run vehicle struck him.

The investigation is ongoing.
