Narrative
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – One person died early Thursday after a vehicle struck them in a construction zone on the east side of Colorado Springs.
The accident happened at 4:17 a.m. at the intersection of Academy Boulevard and Pikes Peak Avenue, which is northeast of Valley Hi Golf Course.
Police say the victim was crossing the street when a neighborhood watch vehicle hit them. Authorities have not yet identified the victim.
Authorities have ruled out drugs and alcohol as a factor in the crash. They aren’t yet sure if the pedestrian was walking in a designated crosswalk when the vehicle hit them. Additionally, they’re investigating whether the driver had difficulty seeing the victim in the dark.
The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene to render aid and speak with police.
