Narrative
GARFIELD CO., CO – Police are investigating a fiery two-vehicle collision that claimed three people on Tuesday in southeast Garfield County.
Shortly before 10:30 a.m., emergency crews reported to the westbound side of I-70 around mile marker 106, just west of the city of Chacra and about two hours west of Denver.
Police haven’t specified the cause of the crash or the manner in which the two vehicles impacted. They say that at least one of the cars caught fire.
Three people sustained fatal injuries. Authorities have not yet disclosed their names to the public.
Officials closed the westbound side of I-70 in the area of the accident for over five hours while crews worked to put out the fire and clear the scene. All lanes re-opened by around 4 p.m.
