Narrative
WHEAT RIDGE, CO – A multi-vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler killed three people and injured at least three others in northeastern Jefferson County Thursday.
The accident happened at 8:20 a.m. on the eastbound side of I-70 at Ward Road in Wheat Ridge. This is just northwest of Denver.
It’s not yet clear what caused the accident, which police say involved a semi-truck and at least three passenger vehicles. The truck overturned during the accident, dropping cargo into the roadway.
Three people from one of the passenger vehicles died from injuries sustained in the accident. Authorities have not yet released their identity.
Three others, including the truck driver, went to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.
Officials closed multiple lanes on both sides of I-70 while crews worked to clear the scene.
A full investigation is underway.
